Protect Your Identity

Debt is not the only thing ruining billions of lives. Identity theft is another. Billions across the globe get their identity stolen everyday, and the number is growing. To protect yourself against identity theft, don't leave any of your important documents in the car.

I know a lot of you heard it is safe to leave your important items in the trunk, but that is not true. If someone broke into your car without a key, do you think it would be hard for them to pop the trunk from the inside of your vehicle?

Never throw away your pre-approved credit card offers, shread it. Follow the guide lines above. If you feel more comfortable with putting your information on a barbeque pit, feel free to do so. Just don't cause a big fire, and make sure you have water on stand by.

When your going to your ATM, make sure no one is standing around you with their cell phone open as if their getting ready to take a picture. It only takes a crook a minute to video record you, keying in your pin numbers.

Don't forget to buy a club for your car. Having a car alarm on your vehicle just isn't enough. You can buy a club from Wal-Mart, Target, Pep-Boys and so on.

Now some of you might be wondering, what does this have to do with debt? Identity theft is one of the reasons for why most people are in debt now.

Would you really want to pay off someone elses debt, because they put it under your name? Come on! Practicing good habits will prevent you from running into a disaster.

LifeLock Protection

Identity theft effects about 10 million people a year. Luckily their is a program that promises to secure your identity. Life lock promises to protect your identity by giving you a phone call or email of verification, before any purchase is made to one of your credit card or before getting a loan of any sort. Now I bet you wondering, how is this company going to protect me? LifeLock works with the Better Business Bureau and TrustE organizations to insure that your information is secure forever.

They stop incoming pre-approved credit card offers from coming in the mail under your name. They also remove your name from all junk mail, that holds a high risk of identity theft. Soon after, you should receive letters from credit bureaus, stating that your fraud alerts have been set.

Your credit reports from each of the bureaus will be sent to you, and they claim you will began to seeing dramatic changes in pre-approved credit offers and junk mail.

To get enrolled, the fee is very small and for what they promise to guarantee, I would say it is worth it. LifeLock promises to give you one million dollars, if your identity is stolen and used in any way.

So this proves that the company strongly believes in their product. However, I personally don't deal with these companies. And it's not because a lot of these programs don't work, I just believe in doing things the old fashioned way.
